MOONLIGHT ON MY PILLOW

Track 7

George Chamuris  (1995)

For Carol Ann, Gaia, and Michele

I was sleeping on my side with the window open,

I opened my eyes, and there it was:

moonlight on my pillow –

moonlight on my pillow.

Transported me to a place of fantasy,

strange colors and vivid hues, smells and sounds unfamiliar.

In the moonlight on my pillow –

in the moonlight on my pillow.

There were spirits all around me,

looked like they came right out of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

Some of them were dead, and some were only sleeping

in the moonlight on my pillow –

in the moonlight on my pillow.

Then one of the spirits touched me and I knew it was you.

We coiled around each other and started to meld like swirls in batter.

We danced a spirit dance, lost in each other

in the moonlight on my pillow –

in the moonlight on my pillow.

Then a cloud must have blocked the moon, ‘cause my pillow darkened.

I was back in my bed, feeling empty without you.

Now every night I look for you, and I wish we could dance

in the moonlight on my pillow –

in the moonlight on my pillow.
